Soft-on-crime Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has come under scrutiny for accepting free tickets worth at least $9,400 to attend 17 swanky black-tie affairs and other galas last year. Most of these events were organized by left-leaning groups that have contracts with the city.

According to Bragg’s financial disclosure filings with the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board, 14 out of the 17 freebies were provided by nonprofits and organizations with city contracts. The value of these tickets ranged from $1,000 to nearly $5,000 each. Some of the notable events Bragg attended include:

– The NYC Police Foundation’s gala at the Intrepid Museum, where tickets were priced at $2,500 each.
– An event hosted by the Center for Alternatives Sentencing and Employment Services, with tickets valued at $50 to $999.
– The “Keepers of the Dream” gala for Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, with tickets worth $1,000 to nearly $5,000.

Critics have raised concerns about the potential conflicts of interest that arise from Bragg accepting these complimentary tickets. As the lead prosecutor in Manhattan, he should avoid associating with groups that advocate for specific social justice agendas. Republican Maud Maron, who is running against Bragg for Manhattan DA, criticized his acceptance of gifts from organizations doing business with the city.

Bragg’s spokesperson defended his actions, stating that he fully disclosed his attendance at events for victims of domestic violence, the National Action Network, the NYC Police Foundation, and other relevant organizations. The spokesperson dismissed the criticism as a smear campaign to undermine Bragg’s commitment to keeping Manhattan safe.

Overall, Bragg’s attendance at these galas has raised questions about his priorities as a district attorney. Critics argue that he should focus on making the streets safer rather than socializing with special interest groups at lavish events. The upcoming general election in November will determine whether Bragg remains in office or faces a new challenger who promises a different approach to law enforcement in Manhattan.
