A surf instructor in California had a harrowing experience when her arm was severed after being struck by an Amtrak train while crossing the tracks with her e-bike.
Elieah Boyd, 24, was shocked to realize her arm was missing and later found it several feet away, enabling doctors to reattach it.
Describing the incident, Boyd mentioned, “There was no train horn. It happened so quickly, just three seconds from seeing the train to the impact.”
Despite the horrific accident, Boyd remains positive and determined to recover. A retired firefighter who was with her at the time called for help, and her severed arm was located nearby.
After undergoing a 10-hour surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center to reattach her arm, Boyd still has more surgeries planned but has started to regain feeling in her arm.
She expressed her eagerness to return to surfing, stating, “As soon as I can touch the water, I’ll be on a surfboard. That’s all I dream about here in the hospital. I just want to get back in the water and surf.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Boyd’s medical expenses and recovery, raising over $50,000 towards the $65,000 goal. The description praises Boyd’s strength and resilience throughout the ordeal.
