A former jail commander in southern Colorado is facing more than 100 charges of invasion of privacy for allegedly watching videos of female inmates’ strip searches for sexual gratification.
Edward Aber, 62, is accused of 117 counts of invasion of privacy for sexual gratification and one count of official misconduct while working at the La Plata County Jail from February 2019 to January 2024, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The CBI launched an investigation into Aber in January following a report from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, officials announced in a press release on Thursday.
Aber was promoted to commander in 2018 and gained access to video footage stored on evidence.com in 2019.
He was placed on administrative leave in July 2024 amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with female inmates and harassment of female staff members, according to state authorities.
Although no charges were brought in relation to the alleged sexual contact with inmates, Aber resigned during the sexual harassment inquiry in July 2024.
