Alvin Bragg hates citizens who defend themselves

The recent acquittal of CVS clerk Scotty Enoe by a Manhattan jury has sparked a wave of relief and outrage. Enoe, who was charged with manslaughter for defending himself and his colleagues against a violent serial shoplifter, should have been hailed as a hero from the start. The fact that he had to go through a trial is a travesty of justice.

The incident occurred when Enoe was viciously attacked from behind by Charles Brito, a known troublemaker who had been causing chaos in the store. Fearing for his life and the safety of his coworkers, Enoe was forced to defend himself with a small folding knife, ultimately resulting in Brito’s death. It was a clear-cut case of self-defense, yet Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg decided to pursue charges against Enoe.

This pattern of charging individuals who are simply defending themselves is not new for Bragg. Similar cases involving Jose Alba and Daniel Penny, who were also charged with manslaughter for defending themselves against violent individuals, highlight Bragg’s skewed priorities. While public pressure eventually led to the dropping of charges against Alba and the acquittal of Penny, the fact remains that innocent people are being criminalized for protecting themselves.

Bragg’s leniency towards actual criminals and his tendency to blame social ills for crime only adds to the frustration felt by many in the community. By charging hard-working individuals and subway passengers with serious crimes while allowing criminals off easy, Bragg is sending a dangerous message that lawbreakers have free rein to terrorize innocent citizens.

The verdict in Enoe’s case only serves to highlight the urgent need for a change in leadership. Alvin Bragg’s tenure as Manhattan District Attorney has been marred by questionable decisions and a lack of accountability. The sooner voters have the opportunity to remove him from office, the sooner the city can start on the path to a safer and more just future. It is time for real justice to prevail in New York City.
