On July 13, President Donald Trump confirmed his communication with FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, asserting their rapport remains intact despite tensions surrounding the release of the controversial Jeffrey Epstein documents. “I spoke to him today. Dan Bongino is a very good guy. I’ve known him a long time,” Trump stated, while speaking to reporters outside Air Force One.

This revelation follows an Axios report detailing Bongino’s absence from work on July 11, attributed to disagreements with Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding the handling of Epstein-related matters. Bongino, who once carved a niche for himself as a conservative commentator questioning the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s 2019 demise, found himself at odds with Bondi’s approach.

Adding fuel to the fire, political commentator Laura Loomer echoed Bongino’s work-related absence, highlighting the rift between him and Bondi. In the wake of this conflict, Trump urged his supporters on July 12 to shift their focus away from Epstein’s case. “What’s going on with my ‘boys’ and, in some cases, ‘gals?’” he posted on Truth Social, defending Bondi’s performance. “They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening.”

Epstein’s legacy, marred by his alleged sex trafficking of minors and his mysterious death, continues to provoke intense scrutiny. Trump’s remarks underscore a divergence in priorities as he insisted, “One year ago our Country was DEAD, now it’s the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World. Let’s keep it that way, and not waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about.”

Amidst the ongoing investigations, questions surrounding Epstein’s connections with powerful figures loom large. At a recent Cabinet meeting, Bondi was questioned about claims suggesting Epstein may have been linked to intelligence agencies. She responded, “I have no knowledge about that. We can get back to you on that,” while downplaying the significance of the missing footage from the night of Epstein’s death as a technical glitch.

Despite the swirl of controversy, Trump asserted that nothing in the Epstein files would “hurt the MAGA Movement.” A memo released by the Department of Justice and FBI on July 7 concluded that Epstein’s death was a suicide, dismissing the notion of a “client list” and asserting that further material related to the case would not be released. The memo stated, “As part of our commitment to transparency, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have conducted an exhaustive review of investigative holdings relating to Jeffrey Epstein.”

This review corroborated the findings of an autopsy, stating Epstein took his own life while awaiting trial. Nevertheless, it acknowledged the profound impact of Epstein’s actions, noting he “harmed over one thousand victims” whose traumas were varied and significant.

Jackson Richman and Ryan Morgan contributed to this report.
