Teenagers Caught with Gun Inside Brooklyn School
Two 16-year-olds were apprehended for bringing a firearm into a Brooklyn school on Thursday, adding to the surge of student violence in New York City.
The pair, a boy and a girl, were discovered passing the weapon while seated inside a classroom at Metropolitan Diploma Plus High School in Brownsville. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. and authorities were alerted by sources.
According to the police, the boy removed the gun from a backpack and handed it to the girl.
Law enforcement officers rushed to the school following a tip about a student carrying a gun in a backpack. The school was placed on lockdown while authorities searched for the weapon.
Both teenagers were arrested on the premises, and it was noted that the school does not have metal detectors.
This distressing incident is part of a concerning pattern of youth violence involving firearms in city schools. Just the day before, two 17-year-olds were shot outside Isaac Bildersee Junior High School in Canarsie.
In a separate incident, a 15-year-old student was injured in the leg in front of a high school in Canarsie, which is in close proximity to where the shooting involving the 17-year-olds took place.
Recent events have highlighted the escalating violence among teenagers, with incidents like a shooting near a Staten Island High School and the arrests of two teens with guns inside a Flushing high school occurring in quick succession.
