Our collaboration with Vista Higher Learning has resulted in the creation of 36 printable Social Scenario Task Cards. These cards are designed to facilitate real-world conversations with prompts for engaging with classmates, teachers, principals, family members, and members of the community. They offer students a unique way to practice meaningful conversations in various settings.

We Are Teachers

This resource is easy to use and can be implemented right away. The teacher’s guide provides various suggestions on how to incorporate the Social Scenario Task Cards into your lessons, such as using them as conversation starters during morning meetings, for early finishers, or as writing prompts for individual practice. Student directions are also included to facilitate pair and group work.

We Are Teachers

These task cards cover a wide range of scenarios that students may encounter in school, at home, and in the community. By practicing conversations with peers and adults, students can build their confidence and communication skills. The cards are designed to support multilingual learners of all levels with vocabulary words and sentence starters to help them get started. Some examples of scenarios include:

  • Talking With Peers:
    • Asking a classmate to borrow a pencil.
    • Discussing favorite subjects at school.

  • Talking With Teachers or Principals:
    • Seeking help from a teacher for something you didn’t understand.
    • Explaining a problem that occurred during recess or in the hallway.

  • Talking With Family:
    • Sharing information about an upcoming school event with family members.
    • Recounting a funny or surprising classroom experience.

  • Community & Home:
    • Asking a librarian for assistance in finding a book at the library.
    • Ordering politely at a restaurant or cafe.

With 36 unique Social Scenario Task Cards available, students can engage in meaningful discussions with various individuals throughout the year.
