Naomi Osaka kicked off her journey at the 2025 Canadian Open with a bang, securing a resounding victory in her opening round match. However, the Japanese tennis sensation had to overcome a major hurdle before taking to the court – a late-night evacuation from her hotel room due to a fire alarm.

The incident, which Osaka shared on her Instagram story, saw her swiftly grabbing her passport and descending 12 flights of stairs in the early hours of the morning. Despite the unexpected disruption, the four-time Grand Slam champion managed to maintain her focus and deliver a stellar performance on the court against opponent Ariana Arseneault, ultimately triumphing with a 6-4, 6-2 win.

Looking to make a mark at the Canadian Open and secure her first major title of the year, Osaka made a significant change to her coaching team ahead of the tournament. The 27-year-old bid farewell to her former coach Patrick Mouratoglou, expressing gratitude for the valuable experience gained under his guidance. In a social media post, Osaka praised Mouratoglou’s influence and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Stepping into the coaching role vacated by Mouratoglou is Tomasz Wiktorowski, the former coach of Iga Swiatek who played a pivotal role in the Polish star’s rise to success. With a wealth of experience working with top-tier players like Swiatek and Agnieszka RadwaÅ„ska, Wiktorowski is poised to provide Osaka with the expertise and support needed to elevate her game to new heights.

As Osaka navigates the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead at the Canadian Open, fans and pundits alike will be eagerly watching to see how this coaching transition impacts her performance on the court. With her sights set on adding more titles to her illustrious career, Osaka remains a force to be reckoned with in the world of women’s tennis.
