25-Year-Old Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Fatal Stabbing Outside Englewood Gas Station
A tragic incident unfolded outside a BP gas station at 63rd and Wentworth in Englewood when a 25-year-old man, Darius Barney, allegedly fatally stabbed a 71-year-old man in what seemed to be a dispute between two panhandlers. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was attacked without provocation by Barney, leading to his untimely demise.
Surveillance footage captured the chilling moment when Barney, wearing a distinctive black jacket with pink stripes and a pink purse, approached the older man outside the gas station. The footage revealed Barney rummaging through his bag before engaging the victim in what appeared to be a heated one-sided conversation.
Without warning, Barney brandished a knife from his purse and struck the victim in the abdomen with a single fatal blow. Shockingly, the victim did not exhibit any signs of aggression before the attack, making the incident even more senseless and tragic.
