It is Saturday, August 2, 2025, marking the 214th day of the year with 151 days remaining.

Significant Events on this Day:

On this day in 1921, seven former members of the Chicago White Sox baseball team were acquitted by a jury in Chicago in the infamous “Black Sox” scandal.

Additionally, in 1790, the first United States Census, overseen by Thomas Jefferson, commenced with a total count of 3,929,214 individuals, including nearly 700,000 enslaved individuals.

In 1873, inventor Andrew S. Hallidie successfully tested a cable car designed for San Francisco, while in 1876, “Wild Bill” Hickok was tragically shot and killed during a poker game in Deadwood, Dakota Territory.

Other notable events on this date include the passing of the 29th U.S. President Warren G. Harding in 1923 and the death of German President Paul von Hindenburg in 1934.

Fast forward to 1945, President Harry S. Truman, Soviet leader Josef Stalin, and Britain’s new prime minister, Clement Attlee, concluded the Potsdam conference.

In 1974, John W. Dean III, former White House counsel, was sentenced to prison for obstruction of justice in the Watergate scandal, serving four months.

Tragically, in 1985, 137 individuals lost their lives when Delta Air Lines Flight 191 crashed while attempting to land at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Moreover, on this day in 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait, leading to the U.S.-led Operation Desert Storm to drive out the Iraqi forces.
