A 20-year-old man from Roseland is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting a 19-year-old during a robbery that took place as a result of a social media marketplace transaction on Thursday night. Kewan Morrison, a resident of the same block where the incident occurred, has been charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm and armed robbery. Prosecutors are set to provide more information about the case at his detention hearing at 26th and California on Saturday afternoon.

The shooting incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. in the first block of West 103rd Place in Chicago. According to a preliminary report from the Chicago Police Department, the 19-year-old victim had arranged to sell a PlayStation console to an individual he had connected with online. Upon arrival, the supposed buyer brandished a rifle and announced his intention to rob the victim.

A scuffle ensued as the victim attempted to disarm the robber, leading to the firearm discharging and striking the victim in his right calf and left forearm. Despite his injuries, the victim was able to subdue Morrison and detain him until law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. The victim was subsequently taken to Christ Hospital for treatment and was reported to be in good condition.

The incident highlights the dangers of conducting transactions with strangers through social media platforms. It serves as a reminder for individuals to exercise caution and prioritize safety when meeting with unknown individuals for exchanges or sales. The swift response of the victim in apprehending the suspect demonstrates the importance of remaining vigilant and taking proactive measures to ensure personal safety.
