Loni Anderson, Star of “WKRP in Cincinnati,” Passes Away at 79

Loni Anderson, best known for her role as the smart and stylish receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on the hit TV show “WKRP in Cincinnati,” has passed away at the age of 79, as reported by AP. Her publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, confirmed that Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital after battling a prolonged illness.

Anderson’s family expressed their sorrow in a statement to AP, saying, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother.”

“WKRP in Cincinnati” aired for four seasons from 1978 to 1982, depicting the antics of a struggling radio station in Ohio. Anderson’s portrayal of Jennifer Marlowe, the station’s intelligent and resourceful receptionist, earned her critical acclaim, including two Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nods.

Alongside Anderson, the show featured a talented ensemble cast that included Gary Sandy, Gordon Jump, Howard Hesseman, Richard Sanders, Frank Bonner, Tim Reid, and Jan Smithers.

Despite her success on “WKRP,” Anderson struggled to break free from her image as the stereotypical blonde bombshell. She later starred in the 1983 film “Stroker Ace” opposite Burt Reynolds, whom she married in 1988. The couple’s relationship ended in a highly publicized divorce in 1994.

Following “WKRP,” Anderson appeared in numerous TV movies, showcasing her versatility as an actress in projects such as “Country Gold,” “The Lonely Guy,” and “Blondie & Dagwood.”

Anderson is survived by her husband of 17 years, Bob Flick, her daughter Deidra, son-in-law Charlie Hoffan, and son Quinton Anderson Reynolds.
