Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s qualifying session at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix didn’t quite live up to the quiet confidence he had been building throughout the weekend. The Mercedes rookie had shown promising pace in Friday’s practice sessions but was ultimately knocked out in Q2 on Saturday, leaving him to start P15 on Sunday despite feeling he had the pace for more. In a statement after the race, Antonelli expressed his frustration at the outcome, attributing it to a lack of rear tire grip during his final lap in qualifying.

Throughout the weekend, Kimi Antonelli seemed to be making genuine progress after a series of challenging race weekends. He impressed by finishing seventh fastest in FP1 and tenth fastest in FP2, showing signs of improvement in the Mercedes car. However, things took a turn for the worse on Saturday as his final flying lap in Q2 was just 0.01s shy of making it into Q3 and was later disqualified for a track limits breach, pushing him down to P15 on the grid.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Antonelli remains optimistic despite the setbacks. The Hungary GP marks another learning experience in his emotionally demanding rookie season, with the expectations only increasing with each race. Despite not scoring any points in the previous six races, he is determined to fight back and secure a points finish in Budapest. The changing weather conditions may play in his favor, as a cooler track temperature during qualifying affected his performance.

It has been a challenging season for Antonelli and Mercedes, with struggles against rising temperatures and inconsistent grip levels. However, the rookie driver remains determined to turn things around and make the most of the opportunities presented to him. With a positive mindset and a focus on strategy and performance, Kimi Antonelli is ready to fight for a strong finish in Budapest.

The Hungarian Grand Prix has been a test of Antonelli’s resilience and determination, but he remains confident in his abilities and his team’s potential. As the race day approaches, all eyes will be on the Mercedes rookie as he looks to make his mark on the track and prove himself in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.
