ABC is in the process of developing a new drama series inspired by a true story about a high school club that successfully solved real cold cases. According to Variety, the network is working on a show titled “Killer Class,” which is based on an article by Keith Sharon from The Tennesseean that highlights a group of students and their teacher from Elizabethton High School.

The show will follow the unexpected formation of a high school Forensics Club that proves to be remarkably effective at solving long-standing cold cases. Steven Lilien, Bryan Wynbrandt, and Joe Webb are the co-creators and executive producers of the series, with Lilien and Wynbrandt also taking on the roles of showrunners. Ken Kwapis of In Cahoots will serve as an executive producer and director, alongside Alex Beattie and Reynolds Anderson of In Cahoots as executive and co-executive producers, respectively. Rachel Kaplan of Absecon Entertainment will also be an executive producer on the project, with 20th Television as the studio behind the production.

Ken Kwapis expressed his admiration for the students and their teacher, stating, “The fact that these kids and their teacher were able to solve cases that had been cold for decades blew me away. I thought: ‘Breakfast Club meets true crime.'” Lilien and Wynbrandt, known for their work on shows like “Quantum Leap” and “God Friended Me,” will bring their expertise to this new series. Kwapis, a two-time Emmy-nominated director, has an impressive portfolio of work including projects like “The Office” and “Malcolm in the Middle.”

The creative team behind “Killer Class” is represented by top agencies like CAA, Range Media Partners, UTA, and WME. The show promises to be a unique blend of mystery, drama, and true crime storytelling, with a talented team at the helm to bring the captivating story to life on screen.
