After spending 25 years in prison for a crime they did not commit, two Wisconsin brothers have finally been released. David Bintz, 69, and Robert Bintz, 68, were wrongfully convicted of killing Sandra Lison in 1987. However, new DNA evidence has linked the murder to another suspect, as announced by The Wisconsin Innocence Project.

Sandra Lison’s body was found near a trail in the Machickanee Forest, showing signs of assault and murder. Despite the lack of DNA evidence linking the Bintz brothers to the crime, they were charged and convicted based on circumstantial evidence and testimony. It was not until 2023 when the DNA evidence was reexamined, revealing that the true perpetrator was a man named William Joseph Hendricks, who had a history of similar crimes.

The brothers were released following a hearing, bringing an end to their wrongful imprisonment. The Great North Innocence Project has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Robert Bintz rebuild his life after years behind bars. The case serves as a reminder of the flaws in the justice system and the importance of DNA evidence in exonerating innocent individuals.
