Samsung’s latest compact foldable flagship phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, has undergone a rigorous torture test conducted by renowned YouTuber JerryRigEverything – and has emerged relatively unscathed.

Known for subjecting the newest smartphones to intentional scratch, bend, and impact tests, JerryRigEverything recently turned his attention to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 following the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The highlight of the test was the Flip 7’s redesigned Armour FlexHinge, which proved to be resilient by surviving three deliberate attempts to bend it in the opposite direction with only a few concerning ‘pops’.

This positive outcome aligns with our own experience with the phone. In a review of the Flip 7, Anyron noted, “I also really appreciate how robust the aluminium hinge feels. I haven’t exactly been careful when opening and closing it, aiming to simulate the effect of long-term usage, but it didn’t show any signs of weakness whatsoever.”

Additionally, the Flip 7 was subjected to sand and scratch tests, revealing its durability. Despite its IP48 rating, the phone remained functional when coated in sand and operated with the hinge. The cover display held up well against scratching, comparable to the main displays of traditional flagship phones. However, the inner display continued to be the weakest link, easily accumulating scratches from minimal pressure.

It’s worth noting that while the Flip 7 survived the bend, sand, and scratch tests relatively well, the vulnerability of the internal display is a common issue among foldable devices. Nonetheless, the overall performance of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in JerryRigEverything’s test and our own review underscores its resilience and durability as a compact foldable smartphone.
