Review: “Here We Woe Again” – Wednesday Season 2, Part 1

The highly anticipated Season 2 of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday” kicks off with a bang in the aptly titled episode, “Here We Woe Again.” Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with the legendary Tim Burton at the helm, the show continues to follow the dark and enigmatic Wednesday Addams, portrayed perfectly by Jenna Ortega. As Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy after a summer of honing her psychic abilities and facing off with a serial killer, she is met with a new mystery that delves into the history of Jericho and sheds light on the secrets of the Addams family. With a mix of thrills and depth, the season promises to be just as captivating as the first.

Wednesday’s summer was spent delving into Goody’s Book of Shadows to master her psychic powers, but a concerning development of black tears during her visions raises some alarms. Despite this, she keeps it hidden from her mother, Morticia, as she returns to Nevermore to focus on her writing. However, the school is not the sanctuary it once was, with her brother Pugsley now enrolled and a newfound celebrity status causing unwanted attention. As Wednesday navigates through the challenges of fame, visions, and family secrets, she realizes that Nevermore has changed under the new leadership of Principal Barry Dort.

The second season of “Wednesday” continues to deliver on its spooky and mysterious elements, with Wednesday racing against time to prevent a dark vision involving her best friend, Enid. As she uncovers more about her family’s past and confronts her strained relationship with her mother, the show dives deeper into the Addams family lore. Despite criticisms of being compared to Hogwarts, the series maintains its dark charm and Jenna Ortega’s compelling performance.

One critique of the season is the decision to split it into two parts, with the first ending on a cliffhanger in “If These Woes Could Talk.” While the visual delights and intricate storytelling remain strong, some viewers may have preferred to binge-watch the entire season in one go.

Overall, “Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1, maintains the twisted and captivating essence of the series, with the Addams family taking center stage and Ortega’s performance shining through. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by the latest installment, now streaming on Netflix.

Don’t miss out on the chilling adventures of “Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1, now available on Netflix.
