In recent years, the shift away from physical SIM cards to eSIMs has been quite significant. With the iPhone 14 series, physical SIM slots were completely removed in the US, making eSIMs the primary choice for mobile connectivity. Whether it’s from your main mobile carrier or a temporary third-party plan used for travelling, eSIMs have become a popular option for many users.

There are various reasons why you might need to delete an eSIM from your iPhone. For instance, when switching to a new carrier, it’s necessary to delete the existing eSIM before setting up the new one. Similarly, if you’re upgrading to a new iPhone, removing the eSIM from your old device is essential before transferring it to the new one. Additionally, deleting the eSIM before selling your old iPhone helps protect your personal information and privacy.

It’s worth noting that iPhones can store up to eight eSIMs, but only two can be active at the same time. Streamlining the number of eSIMs on your phone can simplify things, especially if some of them are no longer needed or operational.

When deleting an eSIM from your iPhone, it’s important to understand that you’re actually deleting the eSIM’s profile, not the eSIM itself. An eSIM is embedded directly into the iPhone, and deleting the profile is akin to uninstalling an app. By deleting the eSIM profile, you’re erasing the stored data related to that specific eSIM.

Before you proceed with deleting an eSIM, there are a few things to consider. Ensure that you have internet access to download a new eSIM profile, and check with the eSIM carrier to confirm that deleting the eSIM will cancel your cellular plan. It’s also important to remember that deleting an eSIM will remove the associated phone number and service from your iPhone.

To delete an eSIM from your iPhone, follow these simple steps:

1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
2. Click on Cellular (or Mobile Service in the UK) to manage your cellular/mobile plans.
3. Select the eSIM plan you wish to remove from the list of installed eSIM profiles.
4. Tap “Delete eSIM” for iPhones with a single eSIM plan, or tap “Delete Plan” for devices with multiple eSIMs. Confirm your selection to remove the eSIM profile from your device.

With these steps, you can easily delete an eSIM from your iPhone. Remember to consider the implications of deleting an eSIM before proceeding with the process.
