A 35-Year-Old Man Accused of Luring and Raping Teenager at South Side Gas Station

A 35-year-old man, Jarad DeYoung, has been accused of luring a teenager from a South Side gas station and raping her in his garage while she cried for help on a live 911 call. He has been ordered detained pending trial.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred late on July 24 at a gas station in the 9400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. DeYoung crossed paths with the 19-year-old victim and offered her a ride home. However, when the teen changed her mind and expressed her desire to leave, DeYoung held her door closed to prevent her from exiting the vehicle.

Upon arriving at DeYoung’s home on South Maryland Avenue, he dragged the victim into his garage, locked the gate, and sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to call 911 during the assault, with the dispatcher urging her to make noise so responding officers could locate her.

The 911 call recording captured DeYoung telling the victim, “You’re going to have my baby,” while she pleaded for him to stop. Police arrived at the scene within minutes and arrested DeYoung after the victim identified him as her attacker.

The victim was taken to Trinity Hospital for a sexual assault exam, and surveillance footage from the gas station corroborated the victim’s account of meeting DeYoung. Prosecutors revealed that DeYoung was already on pretrial release for another case and has prior convictions for armed robbery, residential burglary, and narcotics.

During the court hearing, defense attorney Jaclyn McAllister requested electronic monitoring for DeYoung, citing his living arrangements with his mother, having one child, and working in a factory. However, Judge James Costell deemed DeYoung a threat and ordered him to be jailed pending trial.
