Protecting Your Business: Beware of JS Impersonators

Thank you for being a loyal reader of JS. We have an important message to share with you regarding a concerning issue we have recently discovered.

It has come to our attention that scammers are pretending to be JS reporters and event leads in order to deceive companies. These individuals are using our reputable name and brand to manipulate unsuspecting businesses, and this is something that deeply troubles us.

This problem is not unique to JS; scammers are taking advantage of established news brands across the media industry to gain access to sensitive business information. One of the most common schemes we have encountered involves impostors posing as our reporters to extract confidential details from unsuspecting targets.

In some instances, these fraudsters have gone as far as impersonating actual staff members, sending what appears to be a legitimate media inquiry to companies and requesting introductory calls. While some recipients may notice discrepancies in email addresses, the scammers are constantly refining their tactics to make their pitches more convincing.

Victims who agree to phone interviews often find that the fraudsters use these calls to gather even more proprietary information. The motives behind these actions are unclear, but it is likely that these groups are seeking initial access to a network.

If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from JS and have any doubts about their legitimacy, we urge you to verify their identity. You can easily do so by checking our staff page to see if the person contacting you is listed as an employee. If the name is not on our roster, it is a clear indication that the individual is not affiliated with JS.

Furthermore, if the job description of the person contacting you does not align with their request (e.g., a copy editor suddenly showing interest in your business), it is likely a fraudulent attempt. Feel free to reach out to us directly to confirm the authenticity of the communication.
