In a surprising turn of events, a last-minute diplomatic mission by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow has paved the way for a meeting between former President Donald J. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both parties are reportedly optimistic about a potential plan that could bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. However, the specifics of this plan remain shrouded in mystery, leaving ample room for the mainstream media to inject their brand of sensationalism and speculation aimed at derailing the summit.
Additionally, it appears that Ukraine has been relegated to the sidelines in this crucial dialogue, along with various European leaders known for their hawkish stances.

As soon as the news broke about Trump and Putin’s meeting in Alaska, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took to social media to voice his outrage and preemptively reject any proposed plan, even though no details have yet been disclosed.
Furthermore, Russiaâs Special Envoy for investment and economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, has warned that certain unnamed nations are likely to exert significant pressure to obstruct the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting scheduled for August 15.
âTrump previously indicated that Russia and Ukraine were nearing a ceasefire agreement that could resolve the three-and-a-half-year conflict. The deal’s specifics have yet to be revealed but may require Ukraine to concede substantial territoryâsomething many European nations vehemently oppose. Dmitriev accused certain nations of wanting to prolong the conflict.â
ââUndoubtedly, a number of countries interested in continuing the conflict will make titanic efforts to disrupt the planned meeting between President Putin and President Trump,â he stated on his Telegram account, referring to such efforts as âprovocations and disinformation.ââ

While Dmitriev refrained from naming specific countries, itâs no secret that some of Americaâs European allies have a vested interest in maintaining heightened tensions with Russia.
Take French President Macron, for instance, who seems to thrive on meddling in affairs that donât involve him:

What forms these provocations might take remain uncertain. However, the call for peace is resonating clearly.
