Chicago police are currently on the lookout for the driver of an SUV involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man in Gage Park. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning at around 3:25 a.m. on the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue. The victim was walking in the crosswalk when a northbound SUV ran a red light and struck him.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, believed to be a Toyota 4Runner Limited, fled the scene at high speed without stopping. The SUV may have sustained front-end damage on the passenger side. It was last spotted in the vicinity of Archer Avenue and Sacramento Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers found the victim lying on the street near 55th Street and Kedzie Avenue. He was promptly transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at 4:14 a.m.
