Chicago Police Issue Warning About ATM Burglary Crew

Chicago police have issued a warning to business owners about a burglary crew that has been targeting ATMs in neighborhoods across the city. The crew is believed to be responsible for at least 18 smash-and-grab thefts since early June. This warning comes in addition to a previous alert released last week regarding two similar burglaries.

The offenders typically arrive in a stolen or rented SUV during the overnight hours. They use a heavy object or a prying tool to break windows or force doors open to gain entry. Once inside, they either pry open the ATM to access the cash inside or remove the entire machine, load it into their vehicle, and drive away.

The burglaries have occurred in neighborhoods ranging from the Near North Side to Austin and Jefferson Park, with the crew sometimes hitting multiple businesses in a single night.

The incidents have been reported on various dates and locations, including:

– June 2, 3900 block of West Ogden Street
– June 6, 5600 block of West Roosevelt Street
– July 7, 5800 block of West Roosevelt Street
– July 21, 800 block of North Orleans Street
– August 5, First block of South Pulaski Road

Police describe the offenders as two to five Black men wearing black masks, dark clothing, dark sneakers, and dark gloves.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Area Four detectives at 312-746-8253 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com, referencing case #25-CWP-022D.
