The Conviction of Adam Bramwell: A Recap of the Crime Spree

Adam Bramwell, a four-time convicted felon, has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for a series of violent crimes, including slashing the throat of a DePaul University alum and carjacking a woman near the school’s Lincoln Park campus.

On July 13, 2019, Bramwell, still considered a parole “absconder,” followed a woman into her garage, wielding a knife and forcing her to hand over money and other items before stealing her car. Just five days later, he attacked a recent DePaul University graduate, slashing her throat and leaving her unconscious in an alley.

The victim of the second attack suffered severe injuries, losing nearly half of her blood and undergoing multiple surgeries. Despite initial speculation of a sexual motive, Bramwell was not charged with sex crimes in the case.

Authorities also linked Bramwell to another attempted carjacking on July 8, 2019, where the victim managed to thwart the attack by locking her doors in time.

After a three-week manhunt, United States Marshals apprehended Bramwell on a passenger bus north of Houston. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder, attempted aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated battery, receiving a total of 45 years in prison for his crimes.

In addition to the recent charges, Bramwell had a history of convictions, including a gun case he was on parole for at the time of the crime spree. He had previously served prison time for residential burglary, robbery, and domestic battery causing bodily harm.

Despite the violent nature of his crimes, justice has been served with Bramwell’s lengthy prison sentence, bringing closure to the victims and their families.
