Late Night Shooting Leaves Two Wounded Inside Brighton Park Bar

In a shocking turn of events, a late-night shooting inside Mario & Sandra’s bar in Brighton Park left two men wounded on Friday night. According to a witness, one of the victims managed to gain control of the attacker’s gun and return fire during the incident.

The incident took place at 3620 South California Avenue at 10:39 p.m. when a 911 caller reported shots fired and a man still shooting inside the bar. Police stated that both victims, aged 43, were involved in an argument with another man when he pulled out a handgun and started shooting. One victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, while the other victim was also shot in the hip and back and was listed in good condition at the same hospital.

In a dramatic turn of events, one of the wounded men was able to disarm the gunman and fire back, as reported by a witness. The attacker, along with another man, fled the scene in a red Jeep Compass with temporary plates heading westbound on 36th Place. Witnesses reported seeing one man dragging the other towards the Jeep, suggesting that the gunman may have also been injured in the exchange of gunfire. Several guns and shell casings were found at the scene by responding officers.

The suspected shooter was described as a Hispanic man with very long hair tied in a ponytail, wearing a white shirt with a design on the front and dark pants. The Jeep was driven by another man wearing a green shirt with a Snoopy design, brown work shoes, a white hat, and dark pants.
