FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

A PROCLAMATION

This week, our nation joyfully marks the 238th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution—the iconic document that laid the groundwork for what has been called the greatest Republic ever envisioned. During this Constitution Week, we reaffirm our commitment to the fundamental ties of American citizenship and the enduring customs, culture, heritage, and values that define us. As we approach the momentous 250th anniversary of American Independence, we pledge our allegiance to our venerable flag, symbolizing everything we stand for, and we vow to protect our beloved Constitution from threats, both foreign and domestic.

When the Founding Fathers convened in Independence Hall in Philadelphia in 1787, they enshrined the timeless truth articulated in our Declaration of Independence: that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are bestowed not by government, but by divine providence. The Constitution constructed a framework for governance, embedding in it the foundational principles of federalism, the rule of law, and the separation of powers. These time-tested truths continue to uphold our nation, anchoring our dedication to justice, sovereignty, and the common good. To this day, these principles and our constitutional framework remain the bedrock of our national identity and the source of our achievements.

Our forebears wisely recognized that citizenship entails obligations, including a profound love for our country, a commitment to our fellow citizens, and an enduring resolve to safeguard the freedoms we cherish. Since the dawn of our national narrative, responsible citizenship has demanded that we respect our laws, honor our flag, celebrate our heritage, and protect our homeland and constitutional values from those who would undermine them—whether from within or from beyond.

This belief has informed my actions since day one in office, when I signed an Executive Order aimed at protecting the essence and significance of American citizenship, reaffirming that it represents a sacred relationship between citizen and country.

I am further committed to championing American citizenship and opposing those who seek to undermine our history and tarnish the reputation of our Founding Fathers. This includes ensuring that the true narrative of our nation’s history is told in our museums, empowering parents in the education of their children, and disbanding radical “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” programs within our federal institutions.

I have also taken decisive measures to uphold the dignity of our flag—an emblem under which countless individuals have bravely fought and tragically fallen—by signing an order that demands prosecution for those who desecrate our Stars and Stripes.

<pAs we near the landmark 250th anniversary of our Independence next year, we wholeheartedly recommit to preserving our constitutional legacy, aspiring to a more perfect Union, and forging a future that honors our values, celebrates our traditions, and reinforces America as one united entity under God.

The Congress, by joint resolution on February 29, 1952 (36 U.S.C. 106), designated September 17 as “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day,” and by joint resolution on August 2, 1956 (36 U.S.C. 108), requested that the President proclaim the week beginning September 17 and ending September 23 each year as “Constitution Week.”

THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, hereby proclaim the week of September 17 through September 23, 2025, as Constitution Week. I urge all educators, school administrators, and local leaders to engage America’s youth about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship within our constitutional framework. In doing so, we help ensure that “a more perfect Union” will thrive for generations to come.
