Stéphanie Kilgast’s artwork is a captivating reflection of a world where humanity is absent, leaving behind a legacy of objects, buildings, and trash. In this speculative future, flora and fauna have taken over, creating new habitats where animals, mushrooms, lichens, plants, and corals thrive in harmony with discarded items like aluminum cans, glass bottles, VHS tapes, portable CD players, and alarm clocks.

Kilgast’s post-apocalyptic sculptures are both vibrant and poignant, symbolizing a balance and respect for nature that humanity has lost. Her work expresses hope, joy, and the beauty of nature in an explosion of color, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of life in the absence of human presence.

One of Kilgast’s most recent projects is the book “Utopia,” which chronicles the last ten years of her work. This volume features a collection of sculptures, paintings, and sketchbook pages, accompanied by essays and a complete catalogue of her pieces. To bring this book to life, at least 150 pre-orders are needed by October 3. Interested readers can reserve their copy via Dashbook, with orders expected to ship in December.

For more of Stéphanie Kilgast’s captivating artwork, visit her website and Instagram profile. Her sculptures, such as colorful mushrooms growing out of an alarm clock, an octopus inside a Polly Pocket toy, and a multicolored dragonfly perched on an aluminum can, offer a unique and thought-provoking perspective on the potential future of our planet. Through her creative vision, Kilgast invites viewers to contemplate the impact of human actions on the environment and the enduring resilience of nature in the face of adversity.
