Sara Carter, a former journalist with Fox News, recently addressed Democratic lawmakers in a confirmation hearing as she seeks to become the nation’s leading drug policy official. During the session, she advocated for her nomination and emphasized her extensive experience in investigative journalism, claiming it provides her with valuable insights into the drug trafficking crisis and opioid epidemic facing the United States.

“I may not have a medical degree, a military rank, or a law degree, but I bring with me over 20 years of on-the-ground investigative experience,” said Carter. “I have seen firsthand the devastation that drug cartels and terrorist organizations inflict—not just on our country, but on the lives of our children and families.”

In March, President Trump nominated Carter to lead the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, commonly referred to as the “drug czar.” This office is critical in overseeing federal budgets associated with drug-related issues and directing strategies related to substance abuse, trafficking, and addiction treatment.
