Connecticut Man Arrested After Attempted Carjacking at Dunkin’ Drive-Thru
A shocking incident unfolded at a Dunkin’ drive-thru in East Haven, Connecticut, on Tuesday night when a pregnant woman was attacked by a man attempting to steal her car. The suspect, identified as William Rodriguez, 28, parked in front of the woman’s vehicle and demanded her keys. When she refused, Rodriguez became violent, punching her in the arm and chest, as reported by NBC Connecticut.
The brave woman, who is four months pregnant, managed to escape the vehicle and sought help inside the Dunkin’ location on Foxon Road. Quick-thinking employees intervened and confronted Rodriguez as he struggled to drive the car. They were able to pull him out, wrestle him to the ground, and restrain him until police arrived on the scene.
Despite a confrontation with the officers, Rodriguez was eventually arrested. During the arrest, he reportedly bit a medic’s hand while receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during the carjacking attempt.
Rodriguez, who had outstanding warrants totaling $475,000, was charged with assault on a pregnant person, assault on emergency medical personnel, robbery, assault, reckless endangerment, larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, and breach of peace. He appeared in court and was held on $500,000 bond.
Authorities revealed that the car Rodriguez used during the incident had been reported stolen from New Haven. The mug shot of Rodriguez released by the police showed him with apparent bruises near his eyes, indicating a struggle during the arrest.
