Drone footage capturing the aftermath of a massive slip in Dunedin’s West Harbour area, caused by heavy rainfall over the past two days, has been released.
The recent downpour has led to widespread flooding in the city and other parts of eastern Otago, resulting in the closure of numerous roads and highways.
Fortunately, State Highway 1 between Milton and Waihola has now reopened, providing some relief to affected residents.
Emergency services have been working tirelessly to address the situation, with as many as 38 roads closed at one point, including SH88 to Port Chalmers.
The drone footage, shared by Otago Civil Defence, offers a glimpse of the extent of the slip in the West Harbour area, highlighting the challenges faced by the community in the wake of the severe weather.
