Sean “Diddy” Combs made another appearance in his beige jail attire at a Manhattan court hearing on Thursday, as court documents highlighted the positive feedback he received from fellow inmates regarding a business class he conducted while incarcerated.

The 55-year-old music mogul, who previously showcased a variety of stylish sweaters over collared shirts during his high-profile sexual misconduct trial earlier this summer, appeared in drab Correction Department-issued scrubs as his attorneys attempted to make a last-minute appeal to dismiss his case ahead of sentencing next week.

Combs’ 90-minute court engagement in Manhattan coincided with remarks from his Metropolitan Detention Center neighbors—including an alleged heroin dealer and a reported violent pimp—who sent letters praising a supposed entrepreneurship course he offered called “Free Game With Diddy.”

“He has taught us that minor adjustments in our daily lives can lead to significant changes,” wrote Douglas Welch, who was charged with operating a sex trafficking ring in Brooklyn in 2023 and using violence against a woman who resisted prostitution.

Arturo Santiago, arrested in 2021 for possessing a significant quantity of heroin and fentanyl in his Bronx residence, stated that “thanks to this class, I have found purpose and something to look forward to every single day.”

The letters from Combs’ fellow inmates seemed aimed at portraying his positive character traits in hopes of securing leniency during sentencing.

A “class outline” submitted in court documents revealed a variety of topics that the “I’ll be Missing You” rapper covered during the six-week program for fellow inmates.

Topics discussed in the sessions included “Never be embarrassed – no ego,” “Time waits for no man,” and “Trust the process,” according to the curriculum. Additionally, a “bonus class” was provided featuring the motto “can’t stop, won’t stop.”

Ironically, one unit of the class—likely reflective of Combs’ abrupt decline from stardom amid serious charges of violence and sexual misconduct—was titled “Failure” and included strategies on how to cope when plans go awry or when one is “over budget” and “off schedule.”

The class reportedly earned high praises from a jail administrator at the Brooklyn facility, who noted, “Excellent class. Keep up the great work!!” in an assessment shared by Combs’ legal team to the court.

Furthermore, the court filings suggest an alternative potential explanation for the favorable feedback—indicating that Combs may have been generous with gifts from the prison commissary to his new acquaintances.

The affluent inmate has “formed friendships” with Santiago and others, and reportedly “when able and true to his nature, assists those less fortunate with commissary items,” the court records indicate.

Combs is facing up to a decade behind bars at his sentencing next Friday for organizing sexually explicit encounters he dubbed “freak-offs” with escorts traveling across state lines.

In July, Combs avoided a potential life sentence when jurors found him not guilty of more severe racketeering and sex trafficking charges, despite testimonies from two women alleging he coerced them into fulfilling degrading sexual scenarios during their tumultuous relationships.

However, he was convicted on two counts under the Mann Act, a federal law prohibiting the transportation of individuals across state lines for prostitution purposes.

Combs has requested to be released based on time served, while prosecutors are planning to advocate for a sentence exceeding five years.

The troubled founder of Bad Boy Records waved to and smiled at family and friends present in the courtroom on Thursday as he moved back and forth between his seat and the defense table.

“I love you all so much,” he expressed to his supporters following the conclusion of the hearing. “Every hour, every day brings me closer to returning home.”

Combs’ legal representatives had sought permission for him to wear the sweaters seen during trial at Thursday’s hearing, but Judge Arun Subramanian did not approve the request in time.

He is anticipated to don his own attire at the upcoming sentencing next week.
