Prepare to journey back to the Seven Kingdoms.
HBO has released the inaugural trailer for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” a prequel to “Game of Thrones.” This six-episode series, with each episode lasting half an hour, is set to debut on January 18.
The show’s official synopsis describes it as follows: “A century prior to the occurrences of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unexpected heroes traverse Westeros: a young, innocent yet brave knight named Ser Duncan the Tall, along with his short-statured squire, Egg. This tale unfolds during a time when the Targaryen dynasty still reigns from the Iron Throne, and the last dragon’s legacy is still alive in the memories of the people. These remarkable friends will face significant destinies, formidable adversaries, and thrilling adventures as their story unfolds.”
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” draws inspiration from George R. R. Martin’s short stories known as “Tales of Dunk and Egg.” Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan the Tall, a wandering knight in Westeros, while Dexter Sol Ansell portrays his small squire Egg, who is in fact Prince Aegon Targaryen (not to be confused with any characters bearing that name in HBO’s other prequel series, “House of the Dragon”).
The cast further includes Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall, and Danny Webb.
George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker (“House of the Dragon”) are responsible for writing and executive producing “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Ryan Condal (“House of the Dragon”), Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw will also take on executive producer roles throughout the series. Adina Smith (“Lessons In Chemistry,” “Hanna”) is set to direct three out of the six episodes this season, with Harris handling directing duties for the remaining three episodes.
