La Feria Latinx print media fair in New York City was a vibrant celebration of Latinx culture and art. The event, organized by NYU’s Latinx Project, showcased the work of over 30 talented artists from various countries such as the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States. The atmosphere was lively, with music from artists like Selena and Shakira filling the room, creating a festive and energetic ambiance.

One of the highlights of the fair was the diverse range of art on display, including prints, books, posters, stickers, and more. Prices ranged from affordable $1 prints by the Mobile Print Power collective to high-end prints by artists like Gabriel García Román. Each artist brought their unique perspective and style to the event, creating a rich tapestry of Latinx artistry.

One artist, Nicoletta Daríta de la Brown, showcased her mesh bags with a nostalgic message inspired by her grandmother. Her booth, titled “Botánica Bodega,” was a tribute to her grandmother and the memories of shopping with her in the local bodega. Another artist, Christian Casas, exhibited ceramic tiles that he uses to teach children resettling in the US after crossing the southern border, using art as a form of therapy and expression.

Les Lopez and Inuer Pichardo, childhood friends from the South Bronx, documented the changes in their neighborhood through photography, capturing the impact of gentrification and development. Francisco Donoso showcased prints of manipulated documentation from his DACA proceedings, turning legal documents into works of art.

The fair also paid tribute to the late Cecilia Gentili, a trans activist and community leader, through a photography exhibit by Oscar Diaz. Jessica Elena Aquino sold prints made from carved school erasers, showcasing her background as a teaching artist. The artists at the fair seamlessly switched between Spanish and English, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all attendees.

Overall, La Feria Latinx was a celebration of Latinx art, culture, and community. The diverse range of artists and their unique perspectives added depth and richness to the event, making it a truly memorable experience for all who attended.
