Welcome to the 264th installment of A View From the Easel, a series where artists share insights into their workspace. This week, artists in Los Angeles share their experiences of working in tight spaces, finding inspiration in their surroundings, and building a sense of community in their studios.

Aaron Rose, an artist based in Los Angeles, has been working in his studio for three years. His studio is located in an enclosed porch attached to his house in Hollywood. The space is small but cozy, with plenty of windows that let in the beautiful morning light. Rose shares his studio with two rabbits who keep him company while he paints. He typically works in two- or three-hour shifts, taking breaks in between sessions to work on other projects. The drying time for the enamel paint he uses is long, so he usually has multiple pieces in progress at the same time.

The environment outside Rose’s studio plays a role in his creative process. He lives in an old neighborhood built in the 1920s for Hollywood stars, and sometimes he feels like a novelty as a painter in a neighborhood dominated by actors and directors. However, he finds that people enjoy having him around, and the unique character of his neighborhood inspires his work.

Rose’s studio has taught him to work within a scale that fits the space. While the small size of the studio can be limiting, Rose has found that it can also be a source of creative inspiration. He appreciates the unconventional nature of his studio and feels that he may never be able to work in a traditional concrete box again.

One of the challenges Rose faces in his studio is the lighting once the sun goes down, which limits his working hours. Additionally, he wishes for more space to work in. Despite these challenges, Rose is happy with the work he produces in his studio and enjoys working with One Shot Sign Painters Enamel as his favorite art material.

In conclusion, Aaron Rose’s studio in Los Angeles is a unique and inspiring space that has played a significant role in shaping his artistic practice. The cozy and light-filled environment, coupled with the community of artists in his neighborhood, has contributed to his growth and creativity as an artist.
