ABC recently declared an indefinite suspension for late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s show following a contentious remark made during his Monday broadcast.
Kimmel stated, “We reached some new lows over the weekend, with the MAGA group desperately attempting to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything but one of their own, engaging in all sorts of antics to capitalize on the tragedy.”
Following this, FCC Chair Brendon Carr appeared on a far-right podcast, issuing thinly veiled threats to ABC, declaring:
“This seems to be an attempt by Kimmel to push the narrative that this was a MAGA or Republican-energized individual. What many fail to grasp is that broadcasters hold a license from the FCC, which comes with a duty to act in the public interest. Instances like this give us the option to act, whether it be through subtle adjustments or more substantial measures against Kimmel. Trust me, the latter option may materialize.”
In the wake of Carr’s statement, ABC affiliates quickly announced plans to replace Kimmel’s show, leading to the network’s official suspension notice.

After Colbert’s cancellation, Trump himself quipped, “Next in line will be Jimmy Kimmel, perhaps even less amusing.”
For years, Trump has harbored resentment towards Kimmel over various jabs aimed in his direction. Most notably, Trump remains vexed about Kimmel’s 2017 Oscar roast.
