ABC News has recently found itself in hot water after suspending senior journalist Terry Moran for a controversial social media post targeting President Donald Trump and his adviser, Stephen Miller. Moran took to X to express his thoughts, calling Trump a “world-class hater” and accusing Miller of being “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred”. The post has since been deleted, but the damage was done.

In response to Moran’s comments, ABC News swiftly suspended him “pending further evaluation”. The media group emphasized its commitment to objectivity and impartiality in news coverage, stating that personal attacks do not align with their standards. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned Moran’s remarks as “unacceptable and unhinged rhetoric”, highlighting the growing distrust that the American public has in mainstream media outlets.

This incident is not the first time ABC News has come under fire from Trump. The president previously sued the network over false statements made by anchor George Stephanopoulos regarding a rape allegation. In a settlement reached in December, Disney, the parent company of ABC News, paid $15 million to Trump’s presidential library to resolve the lawsuit.

Trump’s second term has seen an escalation in his attacks on the media, with lawsuits and regulatory threats becoming commonplace. CBS News is currently facing a lawsuit from Trump for allegedly editing an interview with Kamala Harris, his political rival. Additionally, executive orders have been issued to cut federal funding for public broadcasters like PBS and NPR.

The tension between Trump and media conglomerates like Disney and Paramount, which owns CBS News, continues to simmer. Paramount is reportedly in talks to settle the lawsuit with Trump, much to the dismay of the CBS newsroom. As the battle between the White House and the media intensifies, the future of journalism and freedom of the press hangs in the balance.
