Acer Surprises with the Launch of the FreeSense Ring
After a long hiatus, Acer has made a surprising comeback to the wearable tech market with the introduction of the Acer FreeSense Ring, a rival to the Samsung Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring 4.
The announcement of the Acer FreeSense Ring took place at Computex 2025, a tech show in Taipei known for its focus on laptops and PC gear. Unlike most wearable tech releases, this one came as a complete surprise without any prior leaks.
The FreeSense Ring is a smart ring designed to be worn on the finger or thumb, equipped with biometric sensors on the inside. Made from an ultra-lightweight titanium alloy, the ring comes in glossy black or matte rose gold finishes and is available in seven sizes ranging from 7 to 13.
This sophisticated design is IP68/5ATM dust and water-resistant, 2.6mm thick, and weighs between 2-3g depending on the size.
One notable feature of the Acer FreeSense Ring is that it does not require a subscription fee, setting it apart from competitors like the Oura Ring 4 and Samsung Galaxy Ring. Priced at $199-250, it is one of the most affordable smart rings in the market.

According to Tom’s Guide, the Acer FreeSense Ring is set to be released in August. Featuring a variety of sensors, the ring can track metrics such as heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, and sleep patterns.
The companion app utilizes AI to provide wellness insights and recommendations based on the collected data. Acer stated, “With features such as sleep stage analysis and continuous tracking, the Acer FreeSense Ring helps encourage proactive health management and lifestyle awareness.”
One concern is whether the FreeSense Ring can effectively gather and process data compared to its competitors while maintaining a decent battery life. The ring is rated to last four days, slightly behind other options in the market.
Acer may have some unique features up its sleeve, potentially integrating the FreeSense Ring with its other devices like laptops. This could open up possibilities for innovative gestures and interactions.
The last wearable device from Acer was the Liquid Leap+, which made its debut at MWC 2015. With the introduction of the Acer FreeSense Ring, the tech world eagerly anticipates further advancements in wearable technology, perhaps even dreaming of a Google Pixel smart ring.
