Timothy Busfield: A Talented Actor and Director
Timothy Busfield, born in June 1957 in Lansing, Michigan, is a versatile actor and director with a passion for drama. He honed his craft at East Tennessee State University, where he studied theater before embarking on a successful career in the entertainment industry.
Busfield has made a name for himself on both stage and screen, with Broadway credits in productions such as A Few Good Men and Brighton Beach Memoirs. In 1984, he gained recognition for his role as Arnold Poindexter in the comedy Revenge of the Nerds, a character he reprised in the film’s 1987 sequel. That same year, he joined the cast of the critically acclaimed drama series Thirtysomething, which marked a turning point in his television career.
One of Busfield’s notable collaborations was with writer and director Aaron Sorkin. Their partnership began with the 1990 Broadway production of A Few Good Men and continued with Busfield directing several episodes of Sorkin’s ABC series Sports Night.
From 1999 to 2006, Busfield captivated audiences with his role as Danny Concannon on The West Wing. As a Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and the love interest of Allison Janney’s character, White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg, Busfield’s portrayal left a lasting impact on viewers.
On a personal note, Busfield has been married three times. He shares a son with his first wife, actor and director Radha Delamarter. His second marriage was to fashion designer Jennifer Merwin in 1988, with whom he had two children before their divorce in 2007. In 2013, Busfield tied the knot with actor Melissa Gilbert, further solidifying his commitment to love and family.
