Aurora Man Convicted of Murder in 2024 Shooting Incident
Court records indicate that a man who shot two women in an Aurora apartment in 2024, resulting in the death of one of them, has been convicted of murder.
Kelynn Lewis, 34, was apprehended and charged in February 2024 with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, witness tampering, and four counts of child abuse in Adams County District Court.
Following a five-day trial that concluded on Feb. 13, an Adams County jury found Lewis guilty of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, as per court documents.
Additionally, Lewis was convicted of all four child abuse charges and witness tampering, as indicated by the jury verdict sheet.
The incident took place in an apartment on Paris Street, near the University of Colorado Hospital, where Aurora police responded to reports of a shooting at around 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2024.
According to Lewis’ arrest affidavit, he entered the apartment and shot a woman, identified as 35-year-old Vatrice Lashae Little, who tragically lost her life as a result.
Little, who was in her cousin’s apartment at the time, intervened when Lewis shot at his ex-wife, who pretended to be deceased. Four children were present during the incident but were unharmed.
Prior to the shooting, the cousin had informed Lewis that he was not the biological father of her youngest child, which led to the tragic events that unfolded.
Lewis is scheduled to appear in court for a sentencing hearing on May 15, according to court records.
