Adult Swim’s popular animated comedy “Smiling Friends” is set to come to an end after its upcoming third season. The announcement was made by creators and stars Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel in a video shared on Adult Swim’s X account.
In the video, Hadel began by getting straight to the point, emphasizing that the news was not a joke. He revealed, “Michael and I are here to announce that ‘Smiling Friends’ will be ending after Season 3 is done.”
Cusack chimed in, explaining that both he and Hadel felt a sense of accomplishment but also burnout after completing Season 3. They mutually agreed that it might be time to conclude the series on a high note.
From the inception of the show, Hadel and Cusack aimed to pour their all into “Smiling Friends” and then gracefully exit while the show was still thriving. They expressed their desire to leave the audience wanting more rather than allowing the show to drag on past its prime.
Hadel stressed the importance of maintaining the show’s integrity and not delivering subpar content out of obligation. He shared, “We wouldn’t want to be doing more seasons half-hearted or burnt out or not feeling it. That’s not fair to us, and it’s not fair to the audience to give you guys slop. That sucks.”
Cusack made it clear that the decision to end “Smiling Friends” was entirely theirs, and Adult Swim has been incredibly supportive throughout the process.
As fans digest this news, there may be mixed emotions about bidding farewell to the beloved series. However, Cusack and Hadel’s commitment to delivering quality content and knowing when to gracefully bow out speaks volumes about their dedication to their craft.
Stay tuned for more updates on the final season of “Smiling Friends” as the creators prepare to bid adieu to this fan-favorite show.
