Advocate Originals, a collection of LGBTQ programming from the Advocate magazine, is set to premiere on Hulu on June 21, just in time for Pride Month. This exciting lineup of shows and specials is a significant step forward for both equalpride and the representation of the LGBTQ community in media.
Mark Berryhill, CEO of the Advocate’s parent company equalpride, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of Advocate Originals on Hulu, stating that it signifies a meaningful progression towards inclusive media. He emphasized the belief that purposeful content can not only resonate with audiences but also create value for advertisers and partners. According to Berryhill, this slate of programming is just the beginning of what they hope to achieve.
One of the highlights of Advocate Originals is the “Pride of Broadway Special,” a 20-minute program that celebrates LGBTQ+ stars and allies in New York City’s theater scene. Hosted by Sam Champion, the special features interviews, behind-the-scenes moments from Out and The Advocate’s Pride Issue cover shoots, and red carpet highlights from the annual Pride of Broadway Cover Party. The special includes appearances by Broadway icons and breakout talents such as Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Salonga, Megan Hilty, Idina Menzel, Adam Lambert, and Cynthia Erivo.
In addition to the Broadway special, Advocate Originals will also feature the film “Big Easy Queens,” a comedy drag thriller set in New Orleans. Starring “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 17 queen Suzie Toot and cabaret drag artist Miss Bouvèé, this movie promises to entertain and delight audiences.
Other programs in the lineup include “The Out100 30th Anniversary Special,” which celebrates influential LGBTQ+ figures and three decades of the Out100 list, as well as “Candis Cayne’s Secret Garden,” a portrait of the iconic trans voice of TV.
With its diverse and engaging content, Advocate Originals on Hulu is poised to make a lasting impact and further the representation of the LGBTQ community in media. Don’t miss out on these groundbreaking shows and specials when they premiere on June 21.
