In a significant leadership move, A+E Global Media has appointed Tegna executive Brian Weiss as the executive vice president of strategy and business development for its global content sales division.
A release from the company on Monday highlighted that Weiss will be responsible for driving growth strategy and business development across various platforms, including linear, digital, FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television), and other emerging media. In collaboration with leaders of A+E’s Global Content Sales, FAST, and International divisions, he will explore new ventures, develop investment proposals, and harness the potential of A+E’s extensive content library and distribution channels.
Beyond content strategy, Weiss will also act as the liaison for finance, research, and technology initiatives within the company. His leadership will be pivotal in integrating automation and artificial intelligence (AI) into A+E’s operations, positioning the organization for innovative growth.
In his new capacity, Weiss will report directly to Steve MacDonald, who is the president of global content licensing and international for A+E.
Weiss most recently served as the vice president of entertainment programming and networks at Tegna. In that role, he managed several channels, including the True Crime Network, Quest, and Twist, alongside overseeing The Vault Studios’ originals division, Tegna’s syndicated programming, and various over-the-top (OTT) media projects.
His earlier experience includes his tenure as president and general manager at Cooper Holdings, where he played an integral role in the team that launched Justice Network in 2015 and Quest in 2018, both of which were subsequently acquired by Tegna.
Commenting on Weiss’s appointment, MacDonald stated, “Brian brings a rare mix of deal-making savvy and operational expertise to his new position. He excels at transforming complex agreements into strong, lasting partnerships while balancing the needs of stakeholders through a transparent, data-driven approach. He effectively links storytelling with distribution to expand audiences and revenue streams. This combination of skills will undoubtedly unlock new opportunities across our linear, digital, FAST, and international capabilities.”
