Trump’s Bold Claims Following Military Strikes
In a striking address from the White House on the evening of June 21, President Donald Trump celebrated what he characterized as a triumphant series of U.S. military strikes aimed at Iran’s nuclear facilities, while ominously warning of even harsher retaliatory measures if Iran opts for further aggression.
“Our mission was to dismantle Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and neutralize the nuclear threat from the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism. Tonight, I can declare these strikes a remarkable military achievement,” Trump proclaimed.
The U.S. Joins Israel’s Campaign Against Iran
These U.S. strikes represent a direct military escalation following a surprise operation initiated by Israel a week prior. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu depicted his nation’s actions as a decisive effort to eradicate Iran’s nuclear ambitions and diminish its offensive capabilities.
This Israeli operation unfolded just one day before U.S. and Iranian representatives were scheduled to engage in a sixth round of negotiations aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear activities. However, Iran swiftly withdrew from the talks following the Israeli assault.
Iran’s Retaliation and Escalating Tensions
In retaliation, Iran has unleashed a barrage of ballistic missiles and explosive drones targeting Israel, with some successfully breaching Israel’s air defenses, resulting in damage, injuries, and fatalities.
During his address, Trump admonished Iran, stating, “The Middle Eastern bully must now pursue peace. Should they refuse, future attacks will be significantly more severe and easier to execute.”
Iran’s Toughest Targets and U.S. Military Capability
Trump indicated that while many targets in Iran remain, the ones struck during this operation were particularly challenging. The Iranian uranium enrichment facility at Fordow has proven to be a formidable target, located deep underground in a mountainous region.
Military experts have suggested that U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, equipped with 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs known as GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrators, would be optimal for neutralizing such fortified sites.
Earlier that day, reports surfaced indicating that B-2 bombers had departed the U.S. en route to the region during the night between June 20 and 21.
Details of the Strikes and International Reactions
On Saturday evening, Fox News host Sean Hannity disclosed that after the U.S. strikes, Trump informed him that B-2 bombers had deployed several heavy bunker busters on the Fordow facility, while U.S. submarines launched 30 Tomahawk missiles at Iran’s Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites.
In his address, Trump asserted that the key Iranian nuclear facilities had been “completely and utterly obliterated.” Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency confirmed that the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan facilities had indeed been targeted.
However, the full extent of the damage inflicted on these nuclear sites remains unverified at this time.
Wrapping up his remarks, Trump announced that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would hold a press conference the following morning to provide further details about the operation.
Netanyahu’s Praise and Iran’s Defiance
In a televised address later that night, Netanyahu expressed gratitude to Trump for the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, noting that Israel had achieved remarkable progress in its military campaign against Iran since June 13. He lauded the U.S. action as “truly unparalleled.”
“History will show that President Trump actively thwarted the world’s most dangerous regime from acquiring the world’s most perilous weapons,” Netanyahu remarked, claiming that Trump’s leadership has laid the groundwork for a potentially prosperous and peaceful future for the Middle East.
In a counterstatement, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran condemned the U.S. strikes as a breach of international law. According to Iran’s state-run PressTV, the Iranian nuclear agency vowed to continue its program unabated despite the recent attacks.
