An Alabama middle school teacher, Jill Brisendine Campbell, 47, has been accused of raping a 12-year-old student, leading to her arrest by the Opelika Police Department. The young boy alleged that Campbell sexually abused him over a period of years, starting in 2015 when he was just 12 years old. The charges against Campbell include rape and sodomy in the second degree.
The victim reported that the abuse took place during his time in 7th and 8th grade at Opelika Middle School. An investigation by the police uncovered evidence that supported the victim’s claims. The criminal complaint obtained by WRBL revealed that Campbell engaged in intercourse and oral sex with the boy until 2017. Shockingly, the teacher even confirmed the abuse in text messages to the boy, indicating that the incidents occurred while he was a student at the middle school.
Campbell, who has been a teacher at the school for more than 20 years, has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. The police are continuing to gather information and evidence in this case.
Opelika Police Chief Shane Healey emphasized the importance of protecting students and urged anyone with information about this case or any other crime to come forward. The investigation into Campbell was initiated after one of the victim’s parents reported the alleged abuse to a school superintendent, who then alerted the authorities.
Campbell was released on a $35,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7th. The community is shocked and saddened by these disturbing allegations, and the school district is cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
