Flavio Cobolli, Frances Tiafoe, and Valentin Vacherot are the only seeded players left standing at the ATP Acapulco 2026 tournament after the shocking exits of Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Casper Ruud, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The top four seeds at this year’s Mexican Open in Acapulco have all been eliminated, marking the second consecutive year that the top seeds have failed to reach the quarterfinals of the event.
Alexander Zverev, the defending champion and top seed, suffered a surprising defeat in the second round to Miomir Kecmanovic. Meanwhile, Alex de Minaur, a two-time champion in 2023 and 2024, was eliminated in the first round by qualifier Patrick Kypson. Casper Ruud, the third seed and last year’s runner-up, was upset in the first round by Wu Yibing. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the fourth seed and last year’s finalist, also fell in the second round to Mattia Bellucci.
In contrast, Flavio Cobolli, the fifth seed, Valentin Vacherot, the sixth seed, and Frances Tiafoe, the eighth seed, have all advanced to the quarterfinals. Cobolli has cruised through with straight-set victories, while Vacherot overcame a tough three-set battle in the first round before securing a straight-set win in the second round. Tiafoe displayed remarkable resilience by saving match points in a thrilling encounter against Aleksandar Kovacevic.
The upcoming men’s singles quarterfinal matches at the 2026 Mexican Open in Acapulco are as follows:
– Miomir Kecmanovic vs Terence Atmane
– Wu Yibing vs Flavio Cobolli
– Frances Tiafoe vs Mattia Bellucci
– Valentin Vacherot vs Brandon Nakashima
With the top seeds out of the picture, a new champion is guaranteed this year in Acapulco as 2025 champion Tomas Machac opted to skip the event in favor of the Dubai Tennis Championships. The stage is set for an exciting finish to the tournament as Cobolli, Vacherot, and Tiafoe look to make their mark and claim the title.
