Ivanna Lisette Ortiz made her first court appearance since being arrested and charged in connection with the shooting at Rihanna’s home. Ortiz, who appeared in court wearing a blue jumpsuit with her hair in braids, faced charges of attempted murder and assault. Her lawyer initially entered a plea on her behalf, which was later withdrawn. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 25.
Ortiz, a 35-year-old Florida woman, remains in custody with bail set at $1.8 million. She waived her right to a speedy trial, and the judge issued protective orders for Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. Ortiz has also been ordered to surrender her firearms.
The incident in question involved Ortiz allegedly firing multiple rounds into Rihanna’s home while the singer was inside with her three children. Following the shooting, Ortiz was apprehended by police after they tracked her white Tesla Model 3 to a shopping center parking lot.
In a disturbing twist, Ortiz has a history of mental health struggles, as evidenced by a YouTube video she posted on January 4. In the video, Ortiz can be seen clutching a “Praying Woman’s Journal” and making troubling statements about Rihanna, accusing her of attempting to kill her. Ortiz goes on to suggest that when Rihanna dies, God will take her to her “future.”
Another video uploaded on January 21 shows Ortiz continuing her rant, this time likening Rihanna’s face to the devil and going off on a tangent about homework.
It’s important to note that there is no known connection between Rihanna and Ortiz, making the motive behind the shooting even more perplexing. The case continues to unfold as Ortiz awaits her next court date.
