Moira Walley-Beckett, the creator of “Anne With an E” and a writer for “Breaking Bad,” has stepped down as the showrunner for Amazon’s TV series adaptation of “Fourth Wing.” She had joined the project in July but has now exited. The “Fourth Wing” TV series, which is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, was first announced in October 2023. As of now, the series has not been ordered to production, and no cast has been attached to the project.
Sources close to the production have revealed that Jac Schaeffer, known for creating “Agatha All Along” and “WandaVision,” is in talks to take over as the new showrunner for “Fourth Wing.” Schaeffer recently signed an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, making her a potential candidate for the role.
“Fourth Wing” is based on the popular romantasy book series “The Empyrean” by Rebecca Yarros. The story is set in the harsh environment of Basgiath War College, where the main rule is to either graduate or face death. The protagonist, Violet Sorrengail, is a 20-year-old who is thrust into the world of dragon riders, the elite warriors of Navarre, against her expectations of a quiet life.
The executive producers for “Fourth Wing” include Michael B. Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo, Rebecca Yarros, and Liz Pelletier. Stefano Agosto, the executive vice president of TV at Outlier Society, will also be involved as a co-executive producer.
Rebecca Yarros’ “The Empyrean” book series, which is planned to consist of five books, has been well-received by readers. The first book, “Fourth Wing,” became a New York Times bestseller upon its release in May 2023. The sequel, “Iron Flame,” followed in November of the same year, with the third book, “Onyx Storm,” debuting in January. The titles and release dates for the remaining two books in the series have yet to be announced.
The future of “Fourth Wing” looks promising with a talented team of producers and the potential addition of Jac Schaeffer as the new showrunner. Fans of the book series can look forward to seeing their favorite characters come to life on screen in this highly anticipated adaptation.
