Vice Studios (known for “Gangs of London”) and V10 Entertainment, the company behind the production of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” by Vin DiBona Prods., are innovating the classic TV video clip format. Together, they introduce a new hybrid series named “Clip Bait.” This show features a tournament-style competition where online videos face off, evaluated by a group of content creators, as they compete for the title of “ultimate viral champion” in a “live, interactive finale.”
“‘Clip Bait’ is what occurs when viral videos transition from mere viewing to critical evaluation,” commented Joe Ingham, the head of non-scripted development at Vice Studios. “This grand and exciting format blends elements of banter, treasure hunting, and full audience participation. We’ve transformed the endless scrolling experience into a highly engaging competitive arena, and we are eager to bring this fresh concept to viewers soon.”
Ingham will serve as the executive producer for the series on behalf of Vice Studios, with John Stevens and Rick de Oliveira taking on the executive producer roles for V10 Entertainment. They are currently promoting the global rights to the series at the Mipcom international television market.
“‘Clip Bait’ reinvents the traditional clip series and reality competition formats with a vibrant and energetic approach tailored to today’s viral video audiences,” de Oliveira stated. “Our collaboration with Vice promises a tense competition that effectively mirrors the ways audiences engage with video content.”
V10 is well-acquainted with video clips, having acquired several companies including Vin Di Bona Productions, Venture 10 Studio Group, and Fishbowl Worldwide Media in 2023 with support from Clarion Capital. This acquisition provided V10 with a vast library exceeding 2.8 million videos and the ability to produce 250 hours of original content each year.
The V10 library boasts 44 owned digital and FAST channels, accumulating over 1600 hours of proprietary content, featuring titles like “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (36 seasons on ABC), “Follow Me” (Amazon Prime), “Blue Collar Auction” (Peacock), as well as “Totally Funny Kids” and “Totally Funny Animals” (The CW) and “World’s Funniest Videos” (Fox). Additionally, it includes “America’s Funniest People” on ABC and Discovery’s “Wild & Weird,” along with Roku’s “Visionaries with Keanu Reeves & Gard Hollinger.”
Vice Studios, part of Vice Media, produces notable works such as Sky’s “Gangs of London,” which has been renewed for a fourth season, and another Sky series titled “Atomic.” Furthermore, Vice has produced the satirical film starring Saoirse Ronan, “Bad Apples,” which debuted this year at TIFF and featured in San Sebastián, BFI London, and AFI Film Festival. Vice Studios also manages Cuba Pictures, known for Channel 5’s “The Rumour” and RTE’s “The Walsh Sisters.” Their unscripted productions include titles such as “Into the Void” (Hulu), “Hollywood Hustler: Glitz, Glam, Scam” (Prime Video), “Pavements” (Mubi), “Bama Rush” (HBO Max), and “Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now” (Netflix).
