Australian Fashion Week is not just about established designers showcasing their latest collections. It also provides a platform for new and emerging talent to shine. Two group shows, the New Gen show and the Frontier show, are dedicated to showcasing these up-and-coming designers.

The New Gen show, established in 1996, is set to take place later this week. It provides a space for young designers to showcase their creativity and talent. On the other hand, the Frontier show features a mix of new designers and established brands, curated to reflect the diversity of local talent. This show included eight labels, each bringing their own unique perspective to the Australian fashion scene.

One of the standout designers from the Frontier show was Courtney Zheng. Despite only being two years old, Zheng’s label has quickly gained popularity in Australia. With a background in fashion manufacturing inherited from her family, Zheng has a strong vision that is evident in her designs. Her collection featured leather bomber jackets, mermaid gowns, and cool denim separates in a unique shade of cement gray. Zheng’s focus on the structural integrity of the garments and the fabrication sets her apart in the industry. She describes her aesthetic as “Brutalist Stealth,” a departure from her previous collections steeped in Georgian and Victorian references.

Another designer to watch from the Frontier show is Wynn Hamlin. Their resort 2026 collection showcased a mix of contemporary and evening wear pieces that exude sophistication and style. With a keen eye for detail and a focus on craftsmanship, Hamlin’s designs are a testament to the diversity and talent present in Australia’s fashion scene.
