Situated in a serene forest setting in Rouen, France, a unique meditation space known as “Le Monde dans un Gland” or “The World in an Acorn” beckons visitors to pause and reflect. Designed by Linfeng Zhou from LFZ Studio based in Vancouver, this wooden structure offers a tranquil retreat amidst nature.
Crafted from marine plywood, the acorn-shaped pod features diamond-shaped interlocking panels that form the cupule of the nut. These panels allow sunlight to filter through, creating a play of light and shadow within the space. The entrance, designed to resemble a crack in the shell before the root emerges, invites visitors to step inside and embrace the perspective of an awakening tree.
Elevated on concrete blocks and constructed with weather-resistant materials, the acorn pod is designed to withstand the elements of the forest without causing harm to the ecosystem. The use of minimal nails and screws highlights an eco-friendly approach to construction, relying on precision-cut interlocking components for structural integrity.
LFZ Studio’s innovative design not only provides a peaceful retreat for contemplation but also showcases a harmonious blend of architecture and nature. The immersive experience within the acorn pod encourages visitors to connect with the environment and find solace in the beauty of the forest surroundings.
